The Songs of Eru and Melkor

 The Song Of Eru

In the silent void, before all things had a name,

I once wove the theme of light, song, and flame.

Stars obey my breath, planets spin where I dream,

Im responsible for the oceans, sky’s, mountains, and streams.

I set harmony’s chord in the halls of time,

Worlds rising, falling in measure and rhyme.

Through time I’ve guarded the root and the crown,

The unseen hand that shall never be held down.

When shadows press and hearts forget their shape,

I kindle hope so that despair may break.

Let every voice and every creature sing my truth

In the break of dawn, or in the peaceful youth.

For all that was, is, and soon shall be,

My love endures an unending melody.

Instrumental Track: Cafe 1930 ( Astor Piazzolla) -YouTube

I chose Cafe 1930 because of the romanticism of the instrumentals from the violin and guitar. The song holds up this mystical feel that fits with the magic of the realm, but also holds enough emotion to sort of tell the story of a god. It tells the story of a creator of everything who just so happened to create the something that made every effort to defy and rebel against him. The song gives off this feeling of emotional battles, of doing what is believed to be right yet somehow resulting in such a destructive wrong which is why I believe it’s perfect for Eru’s song.

The Song of Melkor

Beneath the stars, I sang alone

A fire that was not born of Ilúvatar’s throne.

I sought the deep, the dark, and the flame,

To craft a world and carve my own name.

I am not bound by chord or a master's voice,

I broke the harmony. It was my choice.

The light was weak, the song too still,

So I remade it but with my will.

The void replied with thundered praise,

As I wreathed the night in a burning haze.

Let others kneel before me. I rise and defy!

I am the storm within the sky.

Though fate may chain and time may sever,

My flame still endures. I fall, not ever.

Instrumental Track: Epikton - Battle of Gods (YouTube)

I chose Battle of Gods for the instrumentals because of the intensity of the music. An instrumental that is loud and “in your face” brings this feeling of battle and a sort of stress like you know destruction is coming. It’s fitting for Melkor’s character since he became a rebel of Eru. He was one of the strongest beings made, yet he sought to go after the one who is to blame for his existence.

  1. I absolutely love the two songs that you have written. The lyrics are so rich with meaning and the accompanying instrumental music that you chose fits so well. You did a great job! - High Elf (Madison)

  2. You did a great job of capturing the spirit of both Eru and Melkor in these two songs. I appreciate that every two lines rhyme which provides such a poetic flow to these lyrics. The sense of hope from Eru’s song is extremely fitting with his character. Also, I can really feel Melkor’s wrath through his song, so you killed it.
